How to Get Organized for University Without Overcomplicating It

1 min read

Getting organized for university does not require a complicated planner or a perfect routine. Start with a few simple habits that help you keep track of what is happening and what to do next.

1. Choose one calendar

Record classes, deadlines, appointments, and reminders in one calendar. Use a paper planner or a digital one, whichever you are more likely to check.

2. Check course information regularly

Check your course portal and email each day so you do not miss updates, new instructions, or changes to deadlines.

3. Write down the next action

For each assignment, write a specific next step instead of only listing the assignment title. For example, “read the brief” is easier to start than “work on essay.”

4. Set a weekly planning time

Once a week, review upcoming deadlines and choose a few realistic priorities. Keep the plan flexible so you can adjust when new tasks come up.

5. Keep your system simple

A calendar and one task list are enough to get started. If you are not checking a tool, try a simpler option that fits your routine better.

6. Ask for support when you need it

If deadlines or organisation are becoming difficult to manage, contact your course team or student support service. They can help you understand what support is available.
